Practice Tips
Instrumental students need to practice daily as part of their homework after classroom homework is done.

How much should you practice?

Try to practice 15 min. to 30 min. daily.  As you play more, your practice time should increase.
Tips: 1.   Find a quiet place with no distractions to practice
                2. Try to practice the same time each day
(Ten minutes is better than 0 minutes)
                3. Play each exercise 10 times each.  Try to play with 0 mistakes.
                4. Review several favorite songs for fun
                5. Play for someone in your family.

Violin, Viola, & Cello Bow Care
Tighten your bow before playing by gently turning the tension screw to the right.  Avoid making the bow hairs too taut----the separation between the bow stick and hair should be about the width of a pencil.
RIGHTY TIGHTY

Put a small amount of rosin on your bow before playing (about once a week).  Hold the rosin in your left hand,  place the bow hairs flat on the rosin and slowly move the bow back and forth on the rosin several times.

After playing, gently clean the instrument with a soft cloth to remove rosin build-up on the strings.

Loosen the hair on your bow before putting it back in the case.
LEFTY LOOSEY
DO NOT STORE YOUR INSTRUMENT IN EXTREME HOT OR COLD LOCATIONS!
